Good news everyone: Justin Bieber is releasing his own scent. Even better news: It’s unisex, so both guys and girls can enjoy it!  The fragrance has been named My World after Bieb’s two albums.  The unique part about the fragrance is that it has been put in bracelets and dog tags that are meant to keep smelling Biebalicious for up to a year.  So go ahead and throw out your old Burberry, Chanel, Juicy, or other scent and pick up J Bieb’s My World.  I can’t even imagine what it smells like….

Mel Gibson Uncast from the Hangover 2

Written on October 26, 2010 – 10:17 pm | by coliver5

After news about Mel Gibson having a cameo appearance on “The Hangover 2” due out in 2011, Director Todd Phillips issued a statement last week saying Mel Gibson will not appear in the movie as some of his cast did not agree with the casting call.  After everything Gibson has gone through it doesn’t really surprise me, he just needs to focus on getting his life together, if he can.  Check out the article in Entertainment Weekly or Enews.

Ready for a Nirvana Reunion?

Written on October 26, 2010 – 9:24 pm | by acusuman

No, Kurt Cobain hasn’t been reincarnated, but it’s the closest thing possible: Dave Grohl announced on a BBC radio show that Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic will be making a guest appearance on the next Foo Fighters album. To further increase the Nirvana quotient, guitarist Pat Smear, who played with that band in its final shows, is on board, as is producer Butch Vig, who helmed “Nevermind.” Grohl recently posted a new picture of Vig, Novoselic and himself on Twitter.

Glastonbury Festival not happening in 2012?

Written on October 22, 2010 – 1:24 pm | by Alex Howard

The Glastonbury Festival, perhaps the most popular and highest grossing rock festival in England, is not happening in 2012 due a shortage of portal potties.  This is not the first reason that would come to mind, would it?  The Olympics will be held in 2012 in London, which is part of the reason this highly-anticipated rock concert will not occur.

Check out this article that explains why!

Anime Meets Movie Trailers

Written on October 20, 2010 – 7:11 pm | by ohstalon06

One of the more popular forms of the fan culture of anime in the United States is making their own Music Videos/Trailers. They all fall under the initials AMVs, short for Anime Music Videos. Setting footage of popular anime shows to Hollywood movie trailers is another popular part of the hobby.

What I’m gonna show you is one I particularly like that was made a year ago, using footage of ‘Fullmetal Alchemist’ the popular Adult Swim show, mashed with the audio of the trailer of ‘Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.’

Stussy x Dickies Workpants

Written on October 20, 2010 – 6:50 pm | by schrist8

Dickies never really go out of style… maybe cause they never were really IN style. It’s more of a niche thing, worn by construction workers, extreme sport athletes, and gangsters from Los Angeles. Anyways, the regular Dickies have a kind of odd really baggy fit, but it looks like Stussy took the fabric and the design and turned it into something a little more multipurpose by changing the fit and slightly tweaking the colors

Website Review: NME

Written on October 20, 2010 – 6:18 pm | by emilysharrer

New Musical Express, or NME, is a British magazine music magazine that has been around since the 1950s and has a great online counterpart, NME.com. The site features a variety of content from breaking news stories, to featured videos, lists and photo galleries to a featured concert ticket section. The site is like a cross between Rolling Stone and Pitchfork; while it gives fair coverage to older bands or musicians’ initiatives it also lets readers know about upcoming bands and reviews albums by, and promotes, indie bands. This makes the site a good go-to to get all your music news in one lump sum.

Most news on the site is given to readers in tiny blips, and often you will find that NME gets their facts from other major publications, like Rolling Stone, which you might argue just makes NME a middle man when it comes to reporting music news. However, because it gives readers just tiny blips and not 500 words on a breaking news story, it lets readers process a lot of information quickly and get their need to know information and get out.

The concert tickets section of the site’s homepage is a cool edition and links you directly to buy tickets for your favorite acts. A major downside for readers that want a lot of information on a new album or information about a new band, is that the site does not contain any long feature articles like you get from rollingstone.com.

Here are some links to check out on the site:

A review of Kings of Leon’s new album, “Come Around Sundown”

A news blip about Keith Richards and Mick Jagger (you can see what I mean about getting information from other sites)

The site’s Cool List, which is a fun, reader-oriented feature on the site

Since the site is a big fan of the list format, and quick bite-sized content, I would pitch the following stories:

Currently, the site does the ten essential tracks of the week, which can be seen in nearly every music publication, so why not try having theme-oriented playlists in addition to change things up? I would like to start a column that features ten essential tracks depending on the week. For Halloween, I would do a Halloween playlist, for hispanic heritage month I could feature the best recent songs by hispanic artists, etc.

I would also be interested in penning a column called “The Week in Quotes,” which would include small blurbs about the most memorable or shocking things musicians or celebrities said that week.

Finally, I would like to join the list of commentary writers on the site and have blog posts featured on the site. Each week, I could write about a recent musical issue and include featured content like photo galleries, youtube videos and mp3s.
