Dancing with the WANNA BE stars?

The first episode of  “Dancing with the stars” 2010 kicked off last night on prime time ABC. As usual, they have the regular group of dancers who teach these “celebrities” how to dance and compete for absolutely nothing but publicity. This year however, it seems like ABC is running out of a budget! Instead of hiring actual talented stars they are hiring low budget “wanna be” reality T.V stars like Audrina from “The Hills”, the one and only “Situation” and of course Sarah Pailn’s daughter and biggest “star” they’ve ever had, Bristol.

    Formula for a DWTS cast:
    1 “old” contestant (70+)
2 contestants with actual dancing backgrounds
    2 athletes
1 actor you thought was dead
1 actor you’ve never heard of
    5 tabloid fixtures

Reheat and re-serve every six months.

I love the above comment. I think there are formulas like that for all of these reality shows and reality competition shows.

Last year I did an analysis of the most watched TV show in America, and DWTS and DWTS Result Show were one and 2, so I wonder why the D-list Celebs?

I found this blog, as well as the comments above, absolutely hilarious. I did not manage to catch the episode last night, but I happened to catch Kyle Massey on the Disney channel yesterday discussing his future appearance on the show. I was in disbelief that DWTS had downgraded to current Disney channel stars. The show may still maintain the same popularity with a completely different audience than usual, but my guesses is that it won’t. Who knows, at the rate they’re going, I might be able to make it on the show by next season!

I think what irks me more than the “wanna be star” is the already trained dancer. A few seasons ago, they had Nicole Scherzinger, lead Pussycat Doll. She makes a living off of singing and dancing. She may not have known how to do the samba, but she had a serious background in performing and learning choreography. And what do you know, she won the season. Didn’t see that one coming from day one.

Despite not being a fan of the show, I watched simply to see Bristol Palin’s performance. While I was not impressed by her dancing, the entertainment value is still there. Audrina Patridge, on the other hand, floored me. I always thought she was a no-talent celebrity who jumped on the reality bus. It may be true, but the girl can dance!
