It Had Me Until…

Devil Trailer

This movie totally had me. I like suspense and horror flicks and this seemed like it had the essential elements – such as a simple premise, creepy music, a hot chick – but then the trailer goes off the rails with four simple words “From the mind of” and one letter “M” followed by “Night Shyamalan.”

What is it with this guy and being able to cut together awesome trailers that lead to terrible movies? He should get out of the movie business and just make trailers for a living. The trailer for Signs? Great. The trailer for The Villiage? Awesome. Lady in the Water? I’m interested. But then the movie comes out and I want to pour bleach into my eyes and slam my head into a Green Bay Packers interior linemen until I get a Kevin Kolb-like concussion and hopefully forget ever wasting time and money to watch one of M. Night’s post The Sixth Sense films.

But who knows, maybe The Devil will be his comeback film. And maybe I’m a dolphin.

This was pretty funny, I agree on a lot of points. Like Avatar:The Last Airbender, looked amazing, but I didn’t even go watch it because I heard it was awful. However, I did enjoy Signs.

Do you think Shyamalan should try his hand at short films instead of movies since his trailers are awesome but films fall short?

This made me laugh, and it’s so true! I can’t even count the number of times I’ve gotten really excited about one of M Night’s films, only to be let down. I won’t fall for it again! Hopefully this movie does end up living up to its’ hype, but I’m not going to pay $13 to find out. I’ll wait for the dvd.

It seems that there are two types of people in this world, those who absolutely love M Night’s movies and those who absolutely hate his movies. I fall into the former category which seems to be the minority. I don’t understand where all this hate comes from.

Obviously you have a point with The Last Airbender, but that movie was based on a crappy kids cartoon so what did you expect from him?

One of the problems I see is that people constantly judge his movies by the trailers. Was Signs a movie about aliens? No, it was about a man regaining his faith. Was The Village a monster movie? No, it’s about what people will go through to escape from the real world. Whoever makes M Knight’s trailer falsely leads people down a path to expect one movie, when M Knight gives them another, better movie.

Also, how could you forget to mention Unbreakable? That movie, in my opinion, is better than Sixth Sense.

So, I am excited Devil and I will see it. (Though, I’ll probably wait for the DVD because I hate the movie theater experience, but that’s a whole other rant.)

Poor M. Night. The man just tried too hard to be the best horror film maker of all time. Before he even started releasing films, he had this whole expectation to be great. It’s hard to live up to such greatness when you haven’t even started yet. (Look what happened to Susan Boyle. The poor woman couldn’t take all the hype, and ended up losing her mind for a brief period of time).

Plus, I don’t think it is M. Night who makes these insane trailers. Whoever makes them should be commended for their ability to fool mass amounts of people into going to see yet another M. Night movie. Advertising, baby- it’s where it’s at.

But in the end, when there is no one else to accuse for Hollywood discrepancies, I always say, blame it on Mel Gibson.

I don’t think his movies are terrible, but his trailers are misleading. However, the masses should know what to expect from M’s movies now. He makes movies that have morals, lessons and make you think.

Devil probably won’t be as scary as it looks…it’ll most likely be a movie that turns into a mind game were you try to guess who is the devil, and then will be pieced together by little clues that were hinted at through out the movie.

Also, I agree with the point above. Whoever is making these trailers is a genious, because EVERYTIME they come out there tons of hype for M’s movies. It might make us mad, but they are doing their job, and getting the majority to spend their money and see the films.

So very freaking true, Shamalayn has officially become a human joke, and this is coming from a person who had the misfortune to waste $11 on his piss poor adaptation of “The Last Airbender” its just scary how far the man has fallen since “Sixth Sense” I mean the guy when he can, directs very very well, but the guy should be kept away from script writing forevermore before he has an opportunity to ruin more possibly great films. And to think people thought he was the next Alfred Hitchcock at one point…
