Willow Smith, 9, is layin' tracks and takin' names

Willow Smith, aka The Fresh Princess of Bel Air, is said to be linking up with Hova himself- the God of God’s in [mainstream] hip-hop.  Yes, mainstream.  (Sorry Izzo- your gangster appeal went bye-bye a long time ago.  But your wealthiness, I’m sure, makes up for it.  AND I would still kiss your feet if you asked me to).

As part of the Smith dynasty, it is only natural, I assume, for Willow to fall effortlessly into the Hollywood spotlight.  She is not only following in her parent’s foot-steps, but her recording career with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation Records is being launched only months after the release of “Karate Kid” (2010), in which brother, Jaden Smith, kicked down the proverbial doors of Pinkett-Smith family fame.

Already being called a trend-setter, Willow’s first track “Whip my Hair” preemptively dismisses her future critics (haters), and she fast-talks/sings her way into the Roc Nation label.

As badly as my eye twitches when I think of early childhood fame and richness, I kind of dig her new song.  Plus, if I had hair like hers, I think I’d whip it back and forth, over and over and over again, too.

Do yourself a favor as you listen to this song, and remember, she’s 9-years-old.  Enjoy!

That’s awesome that she signed a record deal with Jay-Z!!! I guarantee Willow becomes a big pop sensation in the near future. Let’s just hope she isn’t as bad as Justin Bieber. Definitely not a fan.

I thought I would hate it, but it’s not that bad. She’s pretty talented!

I was really surprised how old she sounds in the video. Willow’s parents have always seem to have a strong relationship which will be good since she is launching a career at such a young age. It is funny to think that my parents took me to soccer and lacrosse practice, where as the Smith’s are taking their kids to film shoots and recordings.

Here is a gossip website that asks the question who has a brighter career, Willow Smith or Jackie Evancho. Who do you all think has the brighter career? Personally I think Willow Smith has the financial support to have the brighter career.

I really wanted to dislike this song since I’m usually anti childhood fame because of what it leads to. However, I kind of wanted to whip my hair back and forth to this! I think she just might be the R&B version of Hannah Montana.

As ridiculous as it seems, signing a 9 year means a lot of artist development and a lot of training over the years. We’ll have to see what time does to this girl, could be great or it could be damaging.

Her new single is absolutely ridiculous. A 9 year old singing about love? Watch out Will Smith, she will be the new Lindsey Lohan

Who could have guessed she would be popular/talented coming from that family? I never saw it coming…

This little girl is so fierce! She’s definitely the next Rihanna, not Lindsay Lohan.

I am completely shocked! I never thought I would like her song, but I really do. I especially love the beat. I am seeing a very bright future for this sassy and talented young girl.

I definitely enjoyed the song, but the fact that she almost sounds like Rihanna at the age of 9 makes me completely question Rihanna’s talents. I know that computers/voice overs/audio tone has a huge effect in the music industry these days, but at this point I’m starting to believe anybody can become a singer as long as there’s some edginess to their personality/style. Regardless I love the song and am sure she’ll do well in the music business.

Good post (really long for an interstitial though). Careful of AP style — your writing got sloppy at times. 3/4
